A tool shows a cross for my phone
That is Bevel being honest rather than broken. Not every phone has every sensor: the metal detector needs a magnetometer, the light meter a light sensor, the altimeter a barometer. Each tool shows a ✓ or ✗ for your device up front, and the Sensor Check tool lists every sensor your phone carries, with live readings, so you can see exactly what your hardware can do.
The level reads a little off on a surface I trust
Calibrate it. Lay the phone on a surface you trust and use calibrate-on-flat, or Zero a vial against a reference. Hold freezes a reading so you can read it after you move the phone. Phone sensors drift with temperature and case flex, so re-calibrating now and then is normal.
The compass points slightly away from true north
A magnetic compass points at magnetic north. For true north, set the declination for your part of the world yourself in the compass tool; Bevel deliberately leaves that number to you rather than looking anything up. Keep the phone away from magnets, speakers and steel while you read.
The ruler doesn't match my tape measure
Calibrate it once against a bank card: every card is the same size, and after that the on-screen scale reads true for your particular screen.
How accurate are the readings?
Approximate, and honestly so. Phone sensors are handy, not laboratory instruments. Bevel is for hanging a shelf, finding a stud, checking a post; for structural, electrical, navigational or safety-critical work, use a properly calibrated instrument.
I bought Bevel Pro and it isn't unlocked
Pro is tied to the store account that bought it, so it unlocks on any compatible device you sign in with. Make sure the phone is signed into that account, then open Bevel's settings and tap Restore purchases.
I'm on a new phone
Install Bevel from the store and restore Pro the same way: settings, then Restore purchases, on the store account that bought it. Your settings live on the phone itself, so whether they arrive on the new one depends on your phone's own backup and transfer. Readings are never stored, so there is nothing else to move.
Found a bug? Have a thought?
Email us any time at bevel@zone7studios.com. The phone model and the Android version help a lot with bugs, and for anything about a reading, the tool and the surface you measured help most of all.
